In the summer of 1974, a group of Zamboanguenos hosted a picnic in honor of some visitors from Southern California at Lake Merced in San Francisco.
The idea of forming a social club was well received by the group. They quickly discussed and created a plan to establish it. In December of that year, the initial group brought together a larger number of Zamboanguenos at Wawona Park in San Francisco. After adopting their Constitution and bylaws, they elected their first officers, with Bon T. Puno as President. This marked the beginning of the Zamboanga Hermosa Organization
